KALVELAGE MANSION
2432 WEST KILBOURN AVENUE
MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN
GERMAN BAROQUE CASTLE
Completed in 1896, Kalvelage Schloss (Castle) was designed for Joseph B. Kalvelage by architect Otto Strack. Inspired by German and French Renaissance, this structure is an architectural gem of Baroque character.
Kalvelage was Secretary-Treasurer of Hoffman-Billings Plumbing Fixture Supply Company and resided in the castle from 1898 until 1920.
Kalvelage Schloss was the 1978 selection by Wisconsin Heritages, Inc. as an outstanding historical restoration project. This restored Victorian castle featured ornamental terra-cotta, iron work by Cyril Colnik, carved wood-work by Matthews Brothers (view advertisement Milwaukee Sentinel 1890), brass hardware, light fixtures, that reflect the craftsmanship of a bygone era.
